This is my don’t leave home without it kit! I use the hydrosol and lotion to freshen up during the day….especially when I’m flying.  The shower gel and organic soap gives me peace of mind when I travel because one never knows what is in the mini hotel products…try to find the ingredients next time you travel.

Hydrosol Our Napa Valley organic lavender hydrosol has an herby or grassy note which is indicative of it’s authentic and therapeutic properties.  It can be used as a facial splash or mist, perfume, deodorant or air freshener.

Lotion A light veil of moisture that soothes, rehydrates and refreshes the body. Rich in nutrients yet elegantly simple, this lotion is pourable and has a delicate, sweet, very light natural scent, a perfect base for our luxurious blend of lavender essential oils.

Shower Gel Moisturizing and gentle, this shower gel will leave your skin feeling soft and clean. Like our lotion we’ve added our signature blend of lavender essential oils to this shower gel.

Lavender Soap Lavender has been associated with cleanliness since the Romans added it to their bath water. The name actually comes from the Latin word, lavendus, meaning to wash. We all seem to love the relaxing, calming aromatherapy effects of lavender but it does possess anti-microbial properties as well…..the lavender flowers are blended into the soap to provide a mild exfoliating property.

All of these products are packaged in a hand-made burlap bag with a sprig of Napa Valley organic dried lavender.

Wednesday Giveaway — Cypress Hill Duo

by admin on April 27, 2011 · 9 comments

This week we’re giving away two of our favorite oils: Napa Valley Organic Lavender Essential Oil and Cypress Hill Extra Virgin Olive Oil… produced by two of our favorite people: Bob and Sharon Kahn.

This gift brings back memories of our life in Firenze…where using all the products from a particular farm was part of our every day life. It gave us a sense of connection…to place, people and product. This sense made our experience with the products more enjoyable…more meaningful.  Although we miss that life dearly, we are proud to be able to offer you these two amazing organic products from the Kahn’s Napa Valley Ranch, Cypress Hill. Cypress Hill products bring the same sense of connection as they are produced with the same amount of love and care…so I suppose it’s not about place but more about people…and the Kahn’s…well they are my kind of people!

Napa Valley Organic Lavender Essential Oil The lavender varietal, Angustifolia, is grown in the Western hillside of the Napa Valley by the Kahn Family.  The lavender was harvested in July of 2010 and distilled immediately on the property.  The stems are cut high so the distillation comes mainly from the flowers.  The flowers are only distilled once to ensure the highest grade of essential oil and hydrosol is achieved. This production is very limited.  Our yield this year was approximately 20 gallons in total.

Cypress Hill Extra Virgin Olive Oil The Kahn’s Cypress Hill Farm is home to over 2000 olive trees. All of them are handpicked to produce a luscious full-flavored field blend of unfiltered extra virgin olive oil. To the rustic, bold Italian Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, and Moraiolo olives and the more fruity Spanish Mission and Manzanillos, they have added the mild, delicate flavor of their French Picholines — The best of all worlds!

Question: The slightest hint of a scent can bring back a powerful memory. What scent connects you to a happy memory?

Being the Stream

by Peggy O on March 28, 2011 · 0 comments

“Meditation is not just a rest or retreat from the turmoil of
the stream or the impurity of the world. It is a way of being
the stream, so that one can be at home in both the white water
and the eddies. Meditation may take one out of the world,
but it also puts one totally into it.”

Tips for Travel

by Leslie Billera on March 25, 2011 · 0 comments

Full body scans at the airport. Delays, reroutes and turbulence. Flight attendants on the brink…traveling is hard, whether it’s for work or pleasure.

How do you stay sane on the bumpy road to elsewhere? Try one or more of the following:

Pack a Snack: Even the most simple peanut butter and jelly can bring back the comfort of your home kitchen when you’re smashed in the middle seat 20,000 feet above ground. Plus, your homemade bite is bound to be a bazillion times healthier for you than anything wrapped in plastic.

Make the Mood:Whether it’s your Aunt’s buzzing fluorescent lights or a hotel’s less than adequate bulbs, come prepared. Pack a soothing candle that will fill the room with a glorious glow and offer aromatherapeutic benefits to boot.

Pillow Talk: It may seem a bit Martha Stewart to make your own lavender sleep pillow (although we highly recommend it!), but at minimum, pack something small and cozy that reminds you of home on which to rest your weary head.

B.Y.O.S: When you Bring Your Own Suds, you’re safeguarding against yucky chemicals like 1,4-dioxane, diethanolamine, and parabens. Make it organic and you’re a little closer to the great outdoors, no matter what size the hotel bathroom is.

Strike a Pose: …a yoga pose, that is. If you’ve been on your feet all day, lie on the floor with your feet up against the wall. Or tap into the warrior pose – it helps you regain focus. Print out a couple of poses from the Internet or bring a how-to book, spread out a towel, get down – and limber up!

How do you make your travel experience terrific – not terrifying? Leave your tips in the comment section below!

Wednesday Giveaway

by Peggy O on March 23, 2011 · 14 comments

Our soaps are made from pure certified organic edible plant oils: organic extra virgin olive, organic palm, and organic coconut. The recipes we use create wonderfully moisturizing, gently cleansing soaps with rich lather and pure essential oil aromas.  For our giveaway, we have combined three of our favorite scents:

Orange Cinnamon with Olive Mud - The sweet citrus of orange and the spicyness of cinnamon combine in a scent that enlivens and envigorates. The olive mud, ultrafine particles of olive pumace which settle out of unfiltered organic extra virgin olive oil, is a rich substance which is a source of anti-oxidants and moisturizing superfatting oil.

Rosemary with Barleygrass – An herbaceously scented essential oil, rosemary is known for its ability to purify and cleanse. Coupled with the dark green of barleygrass, this bar evokes the gentle healing power of the plant kingdom.

Peppermint with Mint Leaves – The refreshing scent of peppermint essential oil from Oregon, combined with the gentle exfoliant of finely ground spearmint leaves, creates a soap whose dark green color reflects the moist climate of the Northwest. Refreshing to the mind and cooling to the skin, peppermint has been used for thousands of years for its healing properties.  MY FAVORITE!

All are packaged in our handmade burlap bag and finished with an organic sprig of our Napa Valley Lavender.

Answer the question below in the comments section of this post and get a chance to win!   We will pick a winner on Sunday, March 27, 2011.

If you comment on our Napa Valley Bath Co. Facebook Page, you get an extra tally thrown in the hat for the name draw.

The question for this week is:

How do you determine what soap to buy…..scent?  look?  feel?  trust of producer?  organic?  don’t use soap? :)

Good luck!

You Glow, Girl!

by Leslie Billera on March 21, 2011 · 0 comments

Applying self-tanner – in theory – sounds like a fantastic alternative to baking under the UV dangers of a hot sun.

For the snow-sensitive among us (this winter totaled about 4 feet in my neck of the woods!), sun in a bottle is an alluring, over-the-counter temptation for countering the pasty-face blues.

But a recent reality check from my favorite green beauty author, Julie Gabriel (the green beauty guide), revealed that bronzer – not self-tanner – is the healthiest way to get your glow on. Here’s why:

• Self-tanners are made with dihydroxyacetone.

• Dihydroxyaceton (DHA) is 180% more prone to attracting free radicals (once-healthy oxygen molecules that are now overactive, unstable, and can damage skin) than untreated skin.

• So while you may be enjoying the immediate gratification of sunless, tanned skin, you’re actually applying an aging property to your face and body. Pass.

The Bronze Age

Gabriel recommends titanium oxide-based bronzers – not talc-based ones – with mica and iron oxides for coloring.

She also recommends blending some mineral or cream bronzer with your body oil or SPF-rated sunscreen lotion to get the safest healthy glow.
