We Are Making our Napa Valley Organic Lavender Soy Candles Today

Margarita and Lourdes have been our production team for over 12 years. They were excited to be part of the development of our bath line….until candles. It was not a simple process as none of us knew anything about making candles. Determining the ingredients was simple….we wanted to use soy because it’s better for the planet and it creates an amazing massage oil as it burns…..and paired it with our Napa Valley organic lavender essential oil.  We wanted the candle to be a product that proudly represented mother nature’s bounty….rather then that of of a laboratory.

Determining ingredients was easy….figuring out how to produce a high quality candle that burns correctly….has no sink holes…no gaps in adhering to the glass…was another story.   There were a lot of test runs…a lot of laughs….and a lot of hard work and dedication that went into the process…but we finally got it down….or should I say Margarita and Lourdes finally got it down!

We are heavy into production as the candles are selling well in our stores as well as our exclusive wholesaler, Terrain At Home.    It takes a lot of time and effort to not only make the candle but to package them in our unbleached cheese cloth.  So, when candles show up on the production sheet, Lourdes and Margarita politely giggle as they know their day is cut out for them.  And this week…their days were cut out….we are in a serious candle making mode!

I wandered out earlier today to see how they were holding up.  I was taken back by the number of candles that were on the racks but even more so at the focus that they both were maintaining.  Lourdes was finishing off the tops to ensure a smooth finish while Margarita was wrapping the candles in the unbleached cheese cloth…tying them with our hemp tie….and cutting them to have a “flower” at the top.  Margarita was grooming the top of the package as if she was cutting her daughter’s hair…cut and fluff….set it down and look at it again…..cut and fluff….until it looked just right…and like all the others.

As I watched their attention to detail and the pride in their workmanship, I was overcome with gratitude….the love they put into each candle will bring light to so many.

We chatted about the beauty  and then I went back to my office and lit my candle.   Candles have always been my reminder to slow down and be present…but now…thanks to Margarita and Lourdes….they will remind me to take that moment…and be thankful.

The Latest

Building a new venue can be very exciting…a bit intimidating at times….but still exhilarating.    Since the inception of Napa Valley Bath, we have had amazing experiences and met inspiring people.  We have been fortunate to share it with all of you through our stores in the Napa Valley.  Now…..We are excited to be able to keep you in the loop from afar.  It our “latest” column, we will share the beauty in our days….in hopes of bringing it into yours….to keep us all looking toward the light…..and living in the moment.

We may write  about the production of that day…..

or a new producer we have discovered

or a new product/gift idea

or a design inspiration

or perhaps something that just made us feel cozy….

Himalayan Lavender Bath Salts

The marriage of our Napa Valley organic lavender essential oil and pure, hand-mined salt found naturally deep inside the pristine Himalayan Mountains seemed only natural.

We carefully chose the source of our Pink Himalayan Salt to ensure we were getting the best of the best.  It is imported from an FDA approved manufacturer to ensure it was coming from an ethically and ecologically approved vendor.  The high mineral salt crystals range in color from sheer white to shades of pink and deep reds which indicates a good amount of 84 trace elements and iron…..yes, 84!
