Just Say No to Nanoparticles!

Q: When is ‘skin deep’ not deep enough?

A: When technology worms its way into your personal care products!

Nanoparticles are a hot new technology and all the rage in the beauty industry. But beyond the hype, the picture isn’t so pretty.

One of our skin’s key jobs is to keep harmful substances out;  but it has met its match with nanoparticles.  These ultra fine particles act as ‘penetration enhancers’ that deliver ingredients past the skin to a deep, cellular level – with unintended health consequences.

Nanoparticles enter the bloodstream almost immediately, carrying chemicals to organs. According to the Environmental Working Group, nanoparticles slide up the optic nerve to the brain or burrow inside red blood cells.

Nano No No

Although nanoparticles are found in more than one-third of all products, from sunscreen to moisturizers to foundation – they aren’t easy to spot on ingredient lists!

The following is a list of known nanoparticles to look for on labels – and avoid:

• Nano Zinc Oxide
• Fullersomes
• Nanosomes
• Fullerene (C60 Hydroxide)
• Microspheres
• Ingredients containing the words ‘nano’ or ‘micronized’

Take control of your beauty and bath routine. Remember…

• Less is More: the more natural the product, the fewer ingredients it’s likely to have
• Herbal Essence: Look for products high in herbal content like lavender and aloe vera

Himalayan Lavender Bath Salts

The marriage of our Napa Valley organic lavender essential oil and pure, hand-mined salt found naturally deep inside the pristine Himalayan Mountains seemed only natural.

Lavender Sea Salt Soak

We have combined sea salt from the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean Sea to ensure the most luxurious base for our Lavender Sea Salt Soak.

Both salts are high in mineral content and low in moisture content. The minerals in the sea salt assist in cleansing, detoxifying, and restoring a healthy balance to your skin and muscles. The low moisture content allows for easy absorption of the essential oils…that are then released in the bath water as salts dissolve.

The salts are christened with a blend of our Napa Valley organic lavender essential oil and our organic lemon essential oil. Organic Lavender Bath Tea

Our Organic Lavender Bath Tea is a combination of organic lavender flowers, organic chamomile blossoms, organic calendula petals, organic rose petals and our Napa Valley organic essential oil.

The organic herbs were chosen for their healing properties. The chamomile and calendula are for cleansing and softening the skin; the lavender helps calm the nerves; and the rose petals soothe dry and sensitive skin. As the herbs provide nutrients for the body, our Napa Valley organic lavender essential oil releases in the bath water to ease the mind.

DIRECTIONS: Brew a large pot of our lavender tea on the stove…just as you would for a cup of tea. Pour the tea and the tea bag into your bath.
